DESDE PARÍS: 23 enero to 25 feb_Upcoming Events: Join us for readings, discussions, and more! in Shakespeare and Company-Paris

Our first bookshop events of 2025 reflect some of the turbulence of the contemporary world. In the week of the presidential inauguration, we welcome Amber Massie–Blomfield to discuss how art can be a tool of political activism, and vice versa. In early February we’re delighted to present Sulaiman Addonia, whose latest novel The Seers is both an extraordinary work of experimental fiction, and a profoundly humanising contribution to the conversation around migration. That evening will also feature readings from the model and activist Liya Kebede. The following week we welcome poet Sarah Hesketh to present 2016, her oral-history-as-poem, about the year in which so much was overturned. And we finish the month by welcoming jazz maestro Jeremy Pelt to talk about his Griot series of interviews with masters of that most history-charged musical genre. All events are free, and open to everyone. So do come along and get involved!

DESDE PARÍS: I do love nothing in the world so well as you...in Shakespeare and Company

“Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind…”

— A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Act I, Sc. 1

This February, forget about the flash-in-the-pan flowers or trivial truffles, and offer your Valentine a gift that will last. Subscribers to our Year of Reading receive 12 books, carefully selected and introduced by our team of passionate booksellers, inked with the bookshop stamp, and accompanied by a variety of Shakespeare and Company treats and personalisations. Mixing contemporary fiction, the best new non-fiction, thought-provoking poetry, and a selection of overlooked classics, the Year of Reading is dispatched in three gift parcels over 12 months (sent in April/August/December). All new subscriptions before February 14 will receive a printable Valentine-themed gift card. So whether it’s a special treat for the bibliophile in your life, or a reading adventure for the two of you, no other gift will help the course of true love run more smoothly than the Shakespeare and Company Year of Reading.
